MANASSAS, A PLACE IN HISTORY

MANASSAS, VIRGINIA - “History Loves Company” and “Virginia is for Lovers” are two local slogans in the tourism industry.  Perhaps we should add a third, “Senior Softball Players Love Manassas.”  This year will be the 17th ISSA World Championships and with 6 ISF Senior World Cup championships also played here, the community will be hosting its 23th world class event for senior softball participants.  Accordingly, Manassas has become know internationally as the SENIOR SOFTBALL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.

This year Prince William County and the City of Manassas will commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War and the events that forever changed our nation.  Visitors will experience the Civil War as never before with living history, lectures, film, concerts, exhibits, academic pursuits, educational programs, and re-enactments. More than 80 different events are scheduled and one of those will be the 37th Battle of Manassas, one of our annual slowpitch softball tournaments scheduled for July 23 and 24.  Masters and Senior divisions will be included this year so any teams interested in the event should contact the ISSA Office for details.

The XVII ISSA World Championships will be held on August 12-13, 2011 and will include divisions for women (40+ and Up), senior men (50+ and Up) and a men’s Masters Division for men (35+, 40+ and 45+).  Tournament details are available from the ISSA Website..  This popular senior tournament is expected to draw over 100 teams this year so early entry is advised.
